The Red Lion, Merchantgate York - licensees Julie and Tony Wasley had run pubs in York for some years before taking over at The Red Lion, a pub dating back to the 15th century. The location and the building's history were the deciding factors in Julie and Tony's decision to take on The Red Lion.
"We fell in love with it as soon a we walked through the door" said Tony. "We have built up a loyal following around York with people constantly calling in to see us from one or the other of our old pubs". Tony and Julie plan to continue providing great cask beer and quality food in the historic surroundings, have just started a quiz night on Tuesdays, and will be carrying on their great track record in raising money for charity. Last year they raised £3,500 for St Leonard's Hospice.
